Succulents

The succulent plants they are very striking plant beings. For a long time, and even today, they are often labeled as 'cactus', which is a mistake even and considering that both are succulents; that is, they have evolved to the point of converting their leaves and / or bodies into water stores.

But the crass or crásulaceae are very different. They are mainly native to Africa, where they live very close to the savannah, in areas where it rains very, very little and the sun 'hits' strongly. Under these conditions, it is not surprising that the vast majority of species do not exceed two feet above the ground, or that they blend in with the environment and thus go unnoticed.

Although this is all good for us, it has made Today there are around 1400 species distributed in 35 different genera. And it is not known how many hybrids or cultivars have been achieved, but I can assure you that there are many more than we could ever have in our collection. But don't worry: in this section I will try to get you to know as many as possible so that you can marvel at their colors, shapes and/or flowers, and perhaps hate me for it  .

You have to understand me: succulents fascinate me too! I admit that I am more cactus than 'crasera', but the latter are very, very pretty. I will try to convey all this enthusiasm and passion for these types of plants in each and every one of the cards. Also, to make it easier for you to learn more about them, I will tell you about the pests and diseases that most often have, as well as the chemical or natural remedies that you can use to treat them.

And yes, don't worry: You will also know what is the best way to multiply them. And it is that although at first we could think that they all reproduce in the same way, the reality is very different: they can all be multiplied by seeds, but there are some that it is preferable to do it by cuttings of leaves or stem, or by suckers. For example, Echeveria are very easy to remove by leaf cuttings; the Haworthia, on the other hand, the ideal is to separate the suckers that sprout next to the mother plant; and Lithops can only have offspring from the seeds they produce each year.

Likewise, the care required by the crass that we acquire will not always be the same. They will be similar, but there are some that will want a little less water, others more sun or shade,… Anyway. It is very important to take into account these small details that, although sometimes they can be subtle, in the end they end up making the difference between a healthy dog and one that is not going through its best moment. From my experience and knowledge, I will offer you a series of tips so that you can know well what maintenance you should provide to the specimen that you have taken or want to take home.
